Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely demise has created a void. The actor died by suicide on June 14 and, after five days, people still haven’t come to terms with it. The supremely talented actor began his career on television and successfully forayed into films.
Ekta Kapoor’s Pavitra Rishta was Sushant Singh Rajput’s first show as a lead actor, where he played a middle-class boy, Manav Deshmukh, who worked as a mechanic to support his family. The show got him his first-ever Best Actor award at Indian Television Academy Awards (ITA) 2010.
Anu Ranjan, President of ITA, shared a throwback video of Sushant Singh Rajput receiving the award. He also took home a Maruti Swift DZire car. Anu captioned the video as, “Sushant 1st award ever wins a #marutidzire .. popular actor #itaawards2010 ..memories (sic).”
In the video, Sushant’s name is announced for Best Actor Drama (Popular) for Pavitra Rishta. One can hear Ankita Lokhande screaming as soon as his name is allowed. Sushant gets up and hugs Ankita and co-star Suwati Anand.
After receiving the award, Sushant thanked ITA, Balaji Telefilms and Ekta Kapoor. He dedicated his award to his late mother. Before ending his speech, he looked up and said, “This is for you mom. I love you.”
Sushant lost his mother in 2002. Her death had deeply impacted the actor. Sushant would often share posts about his mother on social media. His last Instagram post was also a tribute to his mom.
The actor’s last rites were performed on June 15 in Mumbai. His ashes were immersed in Ganga in Patna on June 18.
