Similarly, Bengalis celebrate Pahela Boishakh, the first day of the Bengali calendar, as the first day of the new year. This day is celebrated with due dignity all over the country. Many cultural organizations organize cultural events. Students took out colourful processions and special programs were telecasted on TV channels. Traders and shopkeepers open new 'Halkhata' accounts and give sweet gifts to their customers and clients. People wear traditional clothes on this day. Bengalis observe this day as a tradition. This day has many significances. On this day the whole nation gathers. We have the opportunity to explore our cultural identity. On the first day of Baisakh, the Baisakhi fair holds a great attraction for the people of Bangladesh, especially the villagers. People eat a variety of foods. Panta is a popular dish on this day. The program of the day started with Chayanaut at the root of Ramna in Dhaka. Celebrating Pahela Boishakh is an integral part of our culture.
